【妖怪説明】
あかした。化物尽絵巻には黒雲の中に口を開けた顔が浮かんでおり、鳥山石燕「画図百鬼夜行」ではさらに水門と流れる水流とともに描かれている。
赤は淦（船底に溜まった水）、閼伽（一般的に仏に供える水）で水を表している。
また垢で比喩的にケガレを流すことを意味しているようでもある。
舌は「舌は禍いの門」（口は禍のもと）。
つまり、禍いのもとである口が開いており、また水門も開いているため、万事に対して凶事を示している。
陰陽道の羅刹神である赤舌神が、口を開いている（吉事に恵まれない）を意味している絵だとされている。
「赤口きたりて禍内の水運 悩乱呼びし羅刹神」

【Akashita -Red tongue-】
The red tongue was drawn in the Edo period's "化物尽絵巻" and "画図百鬼夜行".
Red represents water by 淦 (water collected on the bottom of the ship) and 閼 伽 (water generally offered to Buddha).
It also seems to mean that the injuries are shed figuratively with dirt.
The tongue stands for "the tongue is the gate of the evil" (the mouth is the source of the evil).
In other words, the mouth, which is the source of the evil, is open, and the floodgates are also open, indicating that everything is wrong.
It is said that the Akashita-god of Onmyodo is a picture that means that the mouth is open (not blessed with good luck).
